James Austin

Born: Edmonton, Alberta

James’ future in music was set early in his life when as a youngster, rumor has it that James could not keep his hands off of his instrument. Many years of dashboard drumming and air guitar strumming lead James to feel that he had a crack at the real thing. In 1994, he bought his first guitar on a trip back to his hometown of Edmonton and has not put it down since. Within a couple of years he was playing in a band with Rick and Todd, a band called "The Funky Whyte Boyz" that eventually morphed into “The Crawl”. Singing, bass and keyboards have been added to his musical resume. James has endless tunes cruising through his head and is often singing away with no regard for shyness or vocal inhibition. Most weeks, Thursday night is the practice night for the boys in the band. James says that no matter how tired he is, band night is a true joy and a big light in his life. Not only is the music there, but so are some of his best friends. Initially playing live at house parties or on a stage was a very intimidating prospect for him, but through the years it has become another place where he feels his best. James feels that playing live is the truest way to test himself and his music, it is also “The Best Feeling” to entertain people. James’ musical tastes range widely, but rock and roll will always be a major force in his enjoyment of music.

In addition to The Crawl, James likes to spend his time with a very active social life, riding his trials motorbike, painting in oils and acrylics, and taking good care of his dog, Wolfgang. He is also an avid traveler.

James is self employed as a mortgage broker. After years of being employed in the pharmaceutical industry, he is really enjoying being in his new career. You can visit his mortgage website at www.jamesaustin.ca
