History of "The Crawl"

The Crawl formed in late 2002. Previously to this, Crawl members, Todd, Rick and James were in a band called “The Funky Whyte Boys”. The FWBs were together for quite a while with many members coming and going over time. Todd and Rick were original members. James was brought into the fold when The FWBs lost their lead guitar player to loftier musical dreams. When that band crashed and burned (or did it just sputter out into oblivion), the pieces were picked up and The Crawl was formed along with it’s newest member Pete Wilson. Pete has amazing skills on the guitar that the newly formed band needed to get to the next level. He was a welcome addition. As well, Pete brought with him vast knowledge in the recording process and how to go about getting the best studio/stage sound. Last but not least to the new band was the drummer, John Wirtz.

The name “The Crawl” came from our younger party days.

Equipped with a new name, renewed energy, and new set of goals, The Crawl was born. Immediately, a big gig was planned for May 2003. It was a long road of several months honing up skills, planning the event, selling tickets and taking care of the million details that a gig for over 500 people would entail. We played to a packed house at Esquimalt Legion. It was a great start with The Legion having one of their biggest nights of drink sales in their history, keep in mind, this is a Legion that we are talking about. The SPCA was our charity that night and we raised a sizable donation for them.

Since that illustrious night, "The Crawl" has undergone some changes. Dr. John Wirtz left the band looking for bigger and better things in life. For the next long while, Sean Wallbridge was our drummer. He was a great addition to The Crawl. Having other bands that he played the drums for and a busy life, Sean felt his time with us was up. This opened up the drummer's slot for Brett Vokes. (aka "The Best Brett Yet") Brett has been creating a deep pocket for "The Crawl" for several years now, and the boys are STILL learning the depths of his many talents. Recently, Brett broke his leg in a motorbike accident. He is well and on the mend, but in the meantime, Sean has kindly stepped back in while Brett recovers. Thank you Sean, we simply could not do it without you.

We figure we will keep the name "The Crawl" for our older party days

This "history of The Crawl" article much like history, continues to be written.
